Skin care on a budget: exfoliating

The skin is important to us; it is the covering of our bodies. It is the part of us people see, the part of us that shows whether we are healthy and well fed or not. Skin care is crucial to feeling good about ourselves and beautiful skin will always attract attention.

Having and maintaining great skin does not have to break the bank, however. We ladies have so many good options when it comes to our skincare, but most of us cannot afford to spend so much money on brand name skin care products. Well, I am here to tell you that there are excellent and natural alternatives that will keep your skin glowing and healthy without bleaching the skin or depositing harmful chemicals in your body.

One very important step in achieving great skin is exfoliation. This means removing the dead skin in the surface to reveal fresher, newer skin underneath. Exfoliating should be gentle and not too abrasive, as that can do more harm than good. Here is a safe and natural alternative for exfoliating effectively.

At least once a week, exfoliate the skin of your face. There are a lot of good, natural exfoliating agents like sugar, oatmeal, and baking soda, but my personal favorite is baking soda because it doesn’t just give me glowing skin afterward, it also gets rid of my whiteheads.

I teaspoon of baking soda
One teaspoon of warm water (honey can be used in place of the water)
A few drops of coconut oil/honey

Mix them together into a paste and apply on the face in circular motions, leave on for ten minutes and wash away with warm water. The glow is immediate, and you will love your skin afterward.

For a better effect, before exfoliating, open up your pores by steaming. You can soak a towel in hot water and place on your face for a few minutes or use the steam from boiled water by putting your face over it in a bucket and covering your head with a towel. Let the steam work for about five to ten minutes before exfoliating. This will be very beneficial to those who have blackheads and whiteheads from overproduction of sebum.
